Mini-Batch Bechamel Sauce
Ingredients (makes about 1 cup)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk (whole milk preferred)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of white pepper (optional)
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- 2–3 tbsp grated cheese of choice
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute to make the roux.
- Slowly add the milk, whisking to keep it smooth.
- Simmer and stir until it thickens, 3–5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, add the cheese, and stir until melted and smooth.
- Season with salt, white pepper, and nutmeg to taste.
